ARTISAN TRAINING INSTITUTION (ATI)

PREAMBLE

To train Artisans in Technical and Vocational skills through the provision of skills training to as many individuals as possible, locally and internationally. ATI is also aimed at contributing to social alleviation and encouragement but mainly it emphasis is to create entrepreneurs. The Institute equips students with the essential skills in a workshop environment which means that the students will be competent to start work immediately after completing the courses. 

PROGRAMMES

1. Certificate in Automotive

COSC/LGCSE with:

  • Pass (E) or better in Mathematics
  • Pass (E) or better in Physical Science
  • Pass (E) or better in English Language

A candidate must have sat for six (6) subjects at level 4 (LGCSE/COSC) or level 5 (AS/A-Level) or its equivalent.

Career Opportunities

Automotive service technicians and mechanics often work for Automobile dealers, Automotive mechanical and electrical repair and maintenance shops, or automotive parts, accessories, and tire stores. Some professionals in this fiels are also self-employed, opting to manage their own auto shops. 

2. Certificate in Electrical Installation

COSC/LGCSE with:

  • Pass (E) or better in Mathematics
  • Pass (E) or better in Physical Science
  • Pass (E) or better in English Language
  • A candidate must have sat for six (6) subjects at level 4 (LGCSE/COSC) or level 5 (AS/A-Level) or its equivalent.

Career Opportunities

  • Working on a construction site, in domestic or commercial settings, locally or abroad
  • Making and installing electrical control panels
  • Maintaining electrical motors, transformers and machinery.
  • Working with street lights, traffic management systems
  • Fixing electrical faults or replacing parts

3. Certificate in Fitting and Machining

COSC/LGCSE with:

  • Pass (E) or better in Mathematics
  • Pass (E) or better in Physical Science
  • Pass (E) or better in English Language

4. Certificate in Panel Beating and Spray Painting

COSC/LGCSE with:

  • Pass (E) or better in Mathematics

  • Pass (E) or better in English Language

A candidate must have sat for six (6) subjects at level 4 (LGCSE/COSC) or level 5 (AS/A-Level) or its equivalent.

Career Opportunities

  •  Body repair technicians

  • Vehicle body painters, responsible for vehicle painting and spraying and for carrying out quality control inspections on paint jobs

  • Typically, panel beaters are either employed in an auto body shop or in some cases, run their own out repair businesses.

  • A panel beating student can further their studies by studying:
    Auto body repairs engineering (Collision repair and refinishing technology), and that student will be a collision engineer

5. Certificate in Bricklaying and Plastering

COSC/LGCSE with:

  • Pass (E) or better in Mathematics
  • Pass (E) or better in Physical Science
  • Pass (E) or better in English Language

A candidate must have sat for six (6) subjects at level 4 (LGCSE/COSC) or level 5 (AS/A-Level) or its equivalent.

  • Self-employment, with necessary experience can trade on a private basis or start own business.

6. Certificate in Carpentry and Joinery

COSC/LGCSE with:

  • Grade (E) or better in Mathematics
  • Grade (E) or better in Physical Science
  • Grade (E) or better in Woodwork/Metalwork will be an added advantage

A candidate must have sat for six (6) subjects at level 4 (LGCSE/COSC) or level 5 (AS/A-Level) or its equivalent

Career Opportunities

  • Creating design drawings, alongside sketches of the work needed and the specifications
  • Producing cutting lists
  • Conducting site surveys
  • Work with engineers on civil works and buildings Install wooden fixtures and fittings in buildings
  • Construct, install, maintain domestic and woodwork components
  • Install wooden fixtures and fittings in building

7. Certificate in Plumbing and Sheet Metal Work

COSC/LGCSE with:

  • Grade (E) or better in Mathematics
  • Grade (E) or better in Physical Science
  • Grade (E) or better in Woodwork/Metalwork will be an added advantage

A candidate must have sat for six (6) subjects at level 4 (LGCSE/COSC) or level 5 (AS/A-Level) or its equivalent

Career Opportunities

Plumbers work in any place that has pipes and any other plumbing such as geysers, where there is a need of pipes, sinks and bathrooms etc.

They work mostly for themselves serving their clients who may be household owners or work for construction companies

8. Certificate in Dressmaking || Tailoring

COSC/LGCSE with:

  • Grade (E) or better in English Language
  • Grade (E) or better in Biology or Physical Science
  • Grade (E) or better in Fashion & Fabrics or Principles of Accounts or      Commerce or Economics or Business Studies               

 

A candidate must have sat for six (6) subjects at level 4 (LGCSE/COSC) or level 5 (AS/A-Level) or its equivalent

 

 Certificate in Dressmaking

Dressmakers make skirts, dresses and other female outfits

 

 Certificate in Tailoring

Tailors mainly make male jackets, suits, trousers and coats
